Seven years after the launch of his Chair One, renowned and multi-awarded designer Konstantin Grcic collaborated with Italian manufacturing company Magis for a new striking chair that would be made with the same technology as he had for One, but with markedly different approach. He named it Venice and put much softer and fluid lines. The heart of the project is found in the seat/armrests combination, created from a single block of die cast aluminium which allows the easy attachment of the front and rear legs which are made of extruded aluminium, without the use of screws. The armrest is presented as a single curved strip that turns on itself: shaped thus it provides a correct and comfortable support for the elbows, while its sinuous form evokes the curvilinear shapes of the gondolas, after which it was named. The legs and arms are powder-coated, die-cast aluminum with either a polished natural or painted black finish, while the seat back is thermoplastic rubber. A textile (or leather) backrest punctuates the chair’s typology and offers an additional play with colour and materials that make it look completely different each time.
Venice was recently granted with the prestigious honor Compasso d’Oro 2014 in Milan!
The chair was recently updated with new colors and this new easily stackable version is suitable also for outdoor use.
