When looking for a table lamp, usually we want it to provide direct light and be discrete in terms of design. Antonio Citterio decided to take this a bit further and design a table lamp for Italian FLOS that would become an archetype. Inspired by bridges and tensile structures, Citterio collaborated with Toan Nguyen and created Kelvin, a lamp with futuristic style, yet not over-designed that looks like an arm of a robot, reaching out to help you illuminate just about anything you need to see, read or do. First of all, it gives you a variety of base options;choose from a desk lamp, a simple flat tabletop base or even a wall mount. Kelvin features a double pantograph arm and swiveling head. The body is cast aluminum alloy. The adjustable head is produced in die-cast aluminum with an injection-molded metalacrylate diffuser. The desktop base mirrors the head’s trim square shaping in ABS plastic. Kelvin LED’s structure is achieved with a square tube in extruded aluminum alloy with steel compensation springs and injection molded slides operating from inside. The external anchors are steel cables. As for the touch On/Off censor inside its die-cast aluminum swivel head, it is just fantastic! It’s methacrylate lens is finished with a special chemical photoengraving technique that allows the LEDs to project warm, soft and comfortable light. With all this, it’s clear that Kelvin is designed for both caressing and impressing and suits any space in your home, from your office desk, to your living room or on your bedside table!
FLOS added a floor and a miniature table version, plus two other exciting ones; the Copper limited edition one and the Kelvin LED GREEN I with Daylight Sensor Kelvin LED GREEN II with Daylight Sensor & Motion Sensor. In order to activate the Daylight/Motion Sensor, simply keep your finger on the touch sensor switch on lamp head for a few seconds until it turns from orange to GREEN. Once the Daylight Sensor is activated, Kelvin LED Green Mode I & II will automatically adjust its light output by responding to the brightness of the work surface it is illuminating. Kelvin LED GREEN II (with Motion Sensor) will go into sleep mode after 5 minutes of detecting no movement and will reactivate once it detects movement again. It will turn OFF completely if it does not detect any movement for 2 hours.
