London-based Claire-Anne O’Brien is from C.Cork Ireland and did Master’s degrees in textiles at Central Saint Martins and the RCA. Her love to experiment with different techniques and scale to create striking constructed textiles for furniture and interiors brought the “Ireland’s best knitter” award before she decided to team up with Spanish Gandia Blasco and create a series of knitted stools and stool cushions for Gan Rugs. Using yarn instead of bricks ‘n; mortar to form her designs, Claire-Anne chose an exaggerated knit of lambswool and sheepswool which gives the textile a three dimensional quality and a strong textural appeal. The wood base of the stools is made of solid matt ash.
The designer describes them as “playful statement pieces”. These handmade knitted stools definitely feel cushy to sit on!
