A cyborg is an organism that incorporates natural as well as artificial feature. Using this as a starting point for a new product, Dutch designer Marcel Wonders and Italian manufacturer Magis made news during Milan Design Week 2011 when Wanders released his intriguing Cyborg chair. The combination wicker/plastic construction is the main characteristic of this design which combines seemingly disparate parts. ‘Cyborg‘ is available in two different versions: entirely made of polycarbonate or with polycarbonate legs and seat and a contrasting wicker back.
The Wicker version of Cyborg marries modern process in manufacturing and design with the traditional aspects of the wicker to create an unusual but intriguing design which can fit in any space.
An exhibition entitled “Marcel Wanders: Pinned Up at the Stedelijk” is running at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam to celebrate the 25 years of the designer in the design world. The Cyborg Chair stands out among a number of 400 products featured in the exhibition space.
Another indication of the striking design of the Cyborg chair made of translucent polycarbonate, is that it furnished the halls of Musée d’Orsay in Paris shortly after it was launched! Its red version is also available on our e-shop!
