Catherine Lovatt studied ceramics and experimented with porcelain vases before deciding to design lighting pieces. Motivated by a special lamp she discovered at an antiques market, the French designer begn to investigate ways to redesign the lamp into a series of contemporary sculptural lighting objects created the Lamp Beton for Belgian manufacturing company Serax. The Beton table lamp is part of Lovatt’s “52 weeks” collection she made, with 52 pieces, one for each week of the year. Geometric ceramic shapes were the base for the light objects with sculptural shapes she created, all made with an unconventional combination of materials.
For the Lamp Beton Lovatt used wood, concrete and white glass, while its red rope adds a colourful and distinctive detail. The lamp can be used as a table lamp, a bedtime lamp or mood lighting in any space!
