Mademoiselle is one of the trademark chairs that Philippe Starck designed for KARTELL. Made of transparent polycarbonate, Mademoiselle has four fasteners placed upon the polycarbonate, allowing for a sturdy, yet flexible fit for a seat made of expanded polyurethane. Starck chose to use unusually thick and soft fabrics for his Mademoiselle so as to make it more comfortable and invited few years ago Missoni fashion house which has a long tradition in fabrics to collaborate by choosing their own fabric to decorate a special edition of the chair.
Another new collaboration for Mademoiselle brought Starck and rock star Lenny Kravitz together for a collection of six reinterpreted Mademoiselle chairs. Kravitz wanted the legs of some of them not to look transparent anymore and combined exotic textiles of faux fur, leather and python with woven materials aiming to create an aesthetic result that combines the taste and spirit of both artists. The new rendition is definitely very sexy!
