Established in 2011, the Lumen Prize is the world’s top digital art award, it is granted every year to art-works made usually digital media. The Onassis Cultural Center of Athens in collaboration with the Lumen Prize Exhibition of Cardiff hosts 50 of the best works of 2013 and the 25 most distinguished works of 2014. Among them is Apodemy, a three-dimensional digital allegory for Athens by Greek artist Katerina Athanasopoulou, whose submission took the first prize in last year’s competition. Under the architectural supervision of George Parmenidis and Christine Longuepee, the show will be on view until November 30.
In parallel with the Lumen Prize exhibition, OCC is staging a one-day conference, with leading digital artists and art theorists aiming to investigate the history and evolution of digital art, the influence of the new media on contemporary art forms and the past, present and future of this particular form of artistic expression in relation to technological advances.
